Waitlisted LOCI E-Mail or Snail Mail Poll
So basically I was waitlisted today, and am currently working on my LOCI. I've read plenty of LOCI threads on TLS, but one thing that I am confused about is my method of delivery. The school that waitlisted me mentioned that I am encouraged to write a LOCI and to e-mail it in. The thing is that the LOCI thread is full of people snail mailing theirs so admissions has to look at it, and will read it more often then one of the million LOCI e-mails they get.
This same school also in the beginning of the admissions season told students to not call or ask for any information(via e-mail and status checker messages), but when students went in and talked to admissions they had a very different vibe encouraging students to call. So their written policies seem to just avoid having to deal with more work.
I would love to go to the school, I'm a splitter, but i think i'm competitive (LSAT a few points above 75% and gpa just below 25%) so I'm trying to maximize my chance of being pulled in.
btw you can revote if someone sways you either way

Re: Waitlisted LOCI E-Mail or Snail Mail Poll
The standard TLS advice is to snail mail, but I find that many schools prefer/only take updates via email. If this is the case, certainly use email. If the school says either or, then use your own judgment. Even so, I still email. With an email, I can get a confirmation back that it has been added to my file. When mailing I would then have to bother them again to email them and ask if it has been received.

Call the admit office and ask. That is what I do.

Email if they accept email. If not, then snail mail.
I'm pretty sure they the admissions office staff adds it to your file, and then a decision hasn't been reached on your application, they will read the whole application again, including the LOCI. Snail mailing and emailing will be the same, except it will take longer and there is a chance it gets lost in the mail.

Walk through this logic with me for just a moment.WaitlistedSadPanda wrote:The school that waitlisted me mentioned that I am encouraged to write a LOCI and to e-mail it in. The school asked for emails. They have a process, and they've informed you of it.
People are sending snail mail so admissions "has" to look at it, and will "read it more often."
Have you ever made a paper airplane? Also, I've always wanted to learn origami, but... I'm too lazy.

While what you wrote makes sense, and I have decided to e-mail it, you didn't quote a key partahduth wrote:Walk through this logic with me for just a moment.WaitlistedSadPanda wrote:The school that waitlisted me mentioned that I am encouraged to write a LOCI and to e-mail it in. and here is a good website on all things paper plane oragami http://www.paperairplanes.co.uk/planes.phpThis same school also in the beginning of the admissions season told students to not call or ask for any information(via e-mail and status checker messages), but when students went in and talked to admissions they had a very different vibe encouraging students to call. Thanks for the response everyone, btw I'm gonna either write my LOCI today after work or tomorrow, would anyone mind reading it this weekend? I get the feeling I should e-mail it asap, so I'm shooting for monday

lol, well played. The reality is these admissions people can't act like jerks in person. Or they can do and then lose candidates. They have these processes, because they deal with tons of people.WaitlistedSadPanda wrote:While what you wrote makes sense, and I have decided to e-mail it, you didn't quote a key part

You can feel free to send it to me, but you should probably get some other people, because I'm kind of... not terribly bright. I also might be playing Agricola or getting drunk and watching baseball.

I'll shoot it over by tomorrow, I'm currently at work and can't work on it right now (probably shouldn't be on TLS either, shhhh.) Also I swear I've seen you on TLS posting about planning on going to a T14 (btw this is my anon account, I would have posted this under my normal, but the school has officially stated they browse TLS and ostracized someone for posting about the school.) This school is a T30, so apparently you're one up on me based on one intelligence factor.ahduth wrote:lol, well played. The reality is these admissions people can't act like jerks in person. If anyone else is willing, I would be appreciative.
