So much hatred!
Why is there so much hatred on here for schools like American, Cardozo, Brooklyn, and St Johns, while similarly/lower ranked schools like Rutgers and Temple don't get as much hate?!

Temple/Rutgers have less competition (not many people want to work in PA or NJ) and Rutgers costs far less than most law schools.
Carodozo/American/BLS/etc have tons of competition (there are significantly better schools in the area plus you have all of the T14 competing to work in NYC/DC) and they cost the same amount as schools that are far better than them.

High debt and mediocre job prospects at or below median. These schools advertise themselves to be far more competitive in their (saturated) local job markets than the numbers actually reveal. With good grades and some hustle It isn't impossible to find decent employment coming out, but Big Law is basically out of reach past roughly the top 15-20%. And hey, thats cool, not everyone wants to work at Skadden.
The big problem is that people get sucked into these schools because of their location. Going at or near sticker + COL + roughly 7% interest easily surpasses 200k in non dischargeable debt. Many applicants have barely even established credit entering law school. How can someone finishing in the bottom third reasonably expect to shoulder that sort of financial burden bringing in 3000 a month after taxes?
Law school, especially ITE, is a gamble. Everyone is smart. Everyone is motivated. Its important to balance your potential debt with realistic job prospects, and for most people these 3 are among the worst options.

American is a great school, it doesn't deserve the hate

it is a top 50 school, and everyone knows that all students in top 50 schools are bound for big law jobs and big bucks

Because Temple and Rutgers don't primarily feed into markets which are dominated by elite schools. Maybe some Penn grads stay in Philly, but I think the perception is that most people at Penn want NYC or DC, and thus Temple can do reasonably well.voltage88 wrote:Why is there so much hatred on here for schools like American, Cardozo, Brooklyn, and St Johns, while similarly/lower ranked schools like Rutgers and Temple don't get as much hate?!
American feeds into DC, where even Georgetown grads are having trouble. Cardozo, Brooklyn, and St Johns all feed into NY, which T14 grads from all over the place want.
