Does anyone have the USNWR rankings done by law firms? It was listed as one of the specialty rankings that you have to pay for to get the top-100.

formerbiglawpartner wrote:Great news for UT which was already the top school in one of the top economies/legal markets in the country. Now it will expand its national range. UT should only continue moving up in these rankings (for what they are worth) under their new dean, formerly from NYU. He's positioning the school to be THE place for practice in Latin America, one of the main markets in the 21st century. Not sure if they've formally announced the program yet, but they have established a program with ITAM, one of the most prestigious universities in Mexico (Pres. Calderon went there) so that students can attend their third year yet graduate from UT. If you attend a second year at ITAM for law, you will be licensed in Mexico. They are looking at similar programs in Argentina and Brazil. As a project finance attorney, the only places you do deals where English doesn't govern the transaction documents are Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries. Brilliant strategy on the part of UT Law!
That is true. And their Texas law review symposium was a success in my opinion. Great focus on Latin America and MANY experts coming in.

I thought Fordham would have slid in the list

School clumpings by the new ratings:

Y
HS
CCN
MPBV
DNC
--
GTown-UT-UCLA-Vandy
USC-WUSTL-GW-Minn

Thoughts? Can we finally add BoalTTT to MVP and GeorgeTTTown to the super regionals? I think the point spreads make it pretty obvious. USC-WUSTL-GW-Minn have also really separated themselves from the rest of the T1 schools. Enough to make a new category?

Edited for fewer acronyms.

You're trying to hard and your use of acronyms was momentarily confusing.

I think the Y | HS is pretty obnoxious. It isn't that much in a class of it's own but rather is has so much $ per student that it gets more points than Harvard and Stanford. The benefits of a small class size aren't enough for that IMO.

RE: Trying too hard. Isn't that what TLS is all about? We already categorize these groups, why not update them when Boalt and GTown implode and WUSTL, etc start pulling away from the pack?

The reliance on "raw score" for groupings seems misguided.

The goal of law school is to attain a position after graduation. Any factors that don't help you attain a job, clerkship, etc. are irrelevant. Thus, placement statistics and lawyer assessments are the only relevant criterion for "grouping" the law schools together.

That score doesn't matter because the methodology is totally flawed.

Double the clerkship and triple the academia placement merit a category of its own.

Is it? What's their method? I'm not surprised. USNews rankings aren't quality.

I don't understand the obsession with them. The damage they cause to unwary law students is criminal.
