When should I start asking for recommendations?

I intend to take the LSAT in June and October if necessary. Applying this fall.

Ask around spring break so that you can make sure you get them before summer starts.

I asked right before summer and my prof said he would submit it by August. He didn't end up submitting it until November but thankfully he was my 3rd LoR and not necessary for apps.
