Best Admissions Packets?

Post by amorfati » Thu Feb 17, 2011 4:31 pm

So I looked to see if this has already been discussed, but didn't see anything on it anywhere. So what do you all think - which schools have the sexiest admissions packets?

I haven't gotten many (...*yet*, I hope...), but so far Duke has blown the competition out of the water with a lanyard/bookmark/little notepad and a handwritten note from the dean commenting on something from my resume. I also thought WUSTL's was cool - it wasn't much, but they had all the info on a flash drive with their logo on it (which you can then use as, well, a flash drive). NYU's packet itself was lacking, but later they sent a nifty little box with a couple booklets on their programs, etc (no goodies, though).

...Thoughts on others? Which should we look forward to and/or not bother crying over if they reject us? ... :D

Haha, totally saw that one coming.

But I doubt I'll get into Yale, so I'll settle for goodies.

Vandy and Duke. On the flipside, W&M's was awful.

I didn't apply to Vandy, but just out of curiosity, what was in the 4.2 lb box of awesome? So heavy, sounds like their should be candy or something!

I also got one from Iowa, but it was pretty lacking as well... just a letter, if I recall. Anyway, I only applied because it's my home state, so I'm not too upset.

There's a huge book called the Obiter Dictum and it's full of information about the school, places to eat, things to do, and apartments. It even shows you how many 1Ls live at each complex and their reviews. It had routes to the schools from popular neighborhoods, shopping recs...pretty much everything you could want.

I was extremely impressed, if you couldn't tell.

+1, that was awesome. There's also a couple magazines (two Vandy Law and one about Nashville) and a folder with the standard admit/congrats letters. Oh, and a sticker.

St. Thomas (MN) sent me a beanie. It is warm. Too bad it has "University of St. Thomas School of Law" plastered all over the front of it.

Michigan's was really good. Had a flash drive with the welcome video. A portfolio to keep all their stuff in. Also a hand written note.

UIUC flash drive has to be the best goodie though. I got WL but my gf got in and got this really cool stainless steel flash drive in a fancy box.

The Emory Dean was trolling about how awesome their packets are supposed to be this year (why the acceptances are taking forever).

If you're reading this, Emory Dean, I kid about the trolling comment :D

i didn't want to mention it in the emory thread, but the dean's post was written in such a way that it would have been a perfect troll post. it was the perfect blend of believable and unbelievable such that, if i didn't know that account was really the dean's, i would be completely baffled.

Northwestern's packet doesn't have much in it, but it does include a rather nice black NU Law logo padfolio, with a spiral-bound admitted student info book where the pad of paper would go. I've actually been using the padfolio at work, and the info book is good for handing to visiting relatives to show them what I've been up to. (Most of my family doesn't even know I've been applying to law schools.)

IU-Bloomy's packet had the only handwritten letter from a dean that I've received so far.

Best: Duke (my first plus I'm a teacher so the lanyard was awesome)

Worst: NYU- signing in purple doesn't make up for lack of goodies- I can be bought!!!
