Is there any downside to soliciting merit aid?
Has anyone out there heard of applicants who have faced any negative repercussions (i.e. going from accepted to denied) after asking for merit aid?

Edit: If you have leverage, i.e. money from a peer school, that helps. FWIW, GeorgeTTTown isn't not a peer school of, say, Penn, so don't go to a T14 school telling them you got aid from your regional, state school.
