Why doesn't this school get brought up?
San Joaquin College of Law?

Any thoughts on it? I didn't even know about it until recently. And it can't be that it's poorly ranked, because plenty of poorly ranked schools get brought up here a lot.

Because it is not ABA accredited, so technically it's not even poorly ranked.

That's an interesting logical progression you have there in your post..

If you try hard enough, once it gets accredited you could make it the next Cooley.
Cooley really does have an unfair reputation around here. We make it out to be the worst law school in the country, when in reality almost all of the other T4 schools are just as awful.

Looked at the link provide - $800 per unit, 86 units required for degree. So nearly 70k in tuition, wow.

Cooley only gets crap because they released their own ranking system that ranks them above a lot of schools in the T20.duckmoney wrote:If you try hard enough, once it gets accredited you could make it the next Cooley.

Also, OP, I like your line of reasoning there.

Re: Why doesn't this school get brought up?
The thing with Cooley is that they have the audacity to produce their own rankings which puts them as 12th in the nation. They have the nerve to rank Stanford as 18th, GWU as 10th, and Vandy as 43rd. Their wackjobs who charge way too much for a crappy education at a crappy school. People dont rag on schools like FAMU or Golden Gate as much because they dont make a big stink about being TTTTsduckmoney wrote:If you try hard enough, once it gets accredited you could make it the next Cooley.

To the OP: I dont think TLSers are going to bother talking about non ABA accredited schools. In many states you have to go to an ABA school to even sit for the bar, so why pay all that money to go to a school that puts a serious cap on your upward potential?

I love that when you click on the "Law Jobs" tab on their website it says "This resource cannot be found." At least they're honest...

The accept students who have not even obtained so much as an associates degree. No wonder there are not jobs to be found coming out of thereprezidentv8 wrote:That is absolutely brilliant.blurbz wrote:I love that when you click on the "Law Jobs" tab on their website it says "This resource cannot be found." It's not T14, and therefore not a real law school.

Don't feel too bad, i got rejected from two callbacks at fresno firms and I have strong ties to the area and worked for a fed judge in the damn city.General Tso wrote:well I got canned at a firm that hires from there, so what does that say about me? one of my interviewers was a partner and attended San Joaquin.
To the main topic of the thread, SJ is actually not that bad. They have a 60% bar passage rate last july, and most their students are a lot more grounded about career options, basically all want to work for Fresno area smaller firms.

Some may say that's one of the benefits of not being accredited.

I really like how, on the grading scale I found in their brochure, you can get a 55-64 and it's called "inadequate, but passing."
You pass inadequate work??? Huh????
lol.
Edit: Gotta love their 60% bar pass rate. Guess that's not too bad given their unaccredited status, though? D:

Yeah, I guess it's just ~20% less than UCLA. Could be worse!r6_philly wrote:That's actually not bad for CA.Aggiegrad2011 wrote: Edit: Gotta love their 60% bar pass rate. Guess that's not too bad given their unaccredited status, though? D:

Re: Why doesn't this school get brought up?
What about the lesser CA schools? If bar passage rate is comparable to those, it actually makes TTT ABA schools look worse.Aggiegrad2011 wrote:Yeah, I guess it's just ~20% less than UCLA. Re: Why doesn't this school get brought up?
true, but most CBA schools have abysmal bar passage rates. only 20% of CBA grads passed the bar in 2010. The exceptions are San Joaquin (62%), Monterey (67%) and Glendale (55%). Many of those schools had 0-10% passage rates.kings84_wr wrote:Its above Golden gate/Whittier/Thomas Jefferson/Southwestern and significantly less cost.

I know one guy from SF Law School (not USF) who has failed the bar 6 or 7 times already.

Re: Why doesn't this school get brought up?
Yeah I agree most of the schools are ridiculous. I think its insane to have a non-aba accredited school in a market like SF/LA/OC/SD where there are already tons of law schools (that probably should not be around either).
The fresno area may be crushed by the economy and not the greatest place to live, but it is the 5th largest city in CA and has no law school.
