Advise

Post by bigben5289 » Fri Jan 28, 2011 8:13 pm

Hello all

So I had an interesting week. I got held at UF and Miami and I got into Illinois with 25k per year.

Should I tell UF and Miami that I got accepted into Illinois in the hopes that they accept me with some money?

I am from Florida and want to practice law in Florida

Thanks

If you'd be willing to go to Illinois for the 25k per year, feel free to mention to the Florida law schools that you're more interested in them but you'll follow the money.

I am torn between going to the midwest (applied to ND, IU Bloomington, Iowa) and staying in Florida (applied to UM, UF, FSU).

So you think I should tell the florida schools that i got into Illinois with money?

I was under the impression such leverage was only useful if you have been admitted.

telling the florida schools now that you got into illinois w/ money and that you'll choose them over illinois if you're accepted may help you get off the waitlist, however i'm not sure whether it'll have any significant impact on the money they offer you. leveraging for money probably won't come into play until you truly have to make a decision between the two, which requires that you get accepted to both first.

I don't see how Illinois @25k would pressure UF/UM into admitting you if they decided to hold you for now. I would wait until you actually got in.
