Letter of Rec to a specific school?

Post by sashyl » Sun Jan 23, 2011 9:34 pm

Hey, I just got a letter of recommendation, and I noticed that it was recommending me to a specific school. I've decided against applying to that school. Can I use this recommendation for all the schools I want to reply to, or should I just try to go back and get a
more "general" recommendation? Thanks!

You should absolutely go back and get a more general letter. If you send a rec with another school listed, adcomms will think at best that you're sloppy or at worst that you are clueless--either way not a good thing.

Is this a serious question? You cannot send that letter to other schools.

Wow, thanks for the quick replies. The recommendation is coming from another country, which makes it really hard to correct. That's why I was hoping to salvage it. I'll get another one though, thanks!
