How long after you apply.... Forum

How long after you apply is it normal to wait before hearing anything from a school? I don't mean a decision or anything, but just a confirmation that they received my application. I submitted my application to GW on 1/6 and I feel like I should have heard something by now. Thanks!

It varies dramatically. 2 weeks is not long enough. If they haven't confirmed receipt of your application after a month, I would call them to check. As far as complete / in review / decision goes, you'll just have to wait until they get back to you, which could be as late as April.

I've heard different things about GW. Looks like they are supposed to send you an email at some point saying your application is complete (I haven't heard anything, but I only applied last week). Some other people on TLS who applied in mid-December haven't heard anything either, but when they called GW, they were told their applications were complete. I don't know, try calling I guess?

Actually, I just got the email from GW right now saying my application was complete. I applied last Wednesday.

I had one that was a week turnaround, and several more that are going on close to four months with no decision yet.

I don't think it's unreasonable to call in and make sure they have everything since you haven't received a confirmation email indicating the file is complete.

I did this with one of my schools yesterday and while I was on the phone, they verified everything in my file and moved me to complete and I received an automated email seconds later.

The admissions offices are use to having routine questions like this and as long as you're not obnoxious and constantly requesting updates that can be provided by the status checker, I would think it's okay to call in and ask.

I submitted on 1/9 and hadn't heard anything. I called the admissions offce today and they said that they recieved my application and that it was complete. They do not have a status checker online. However, about 3 minutes after I hung up the phone with them I recieved an email from GW admissions saying "Your application for admission to the fall 2011 entering class of The George Washington University Law School has been received and is complete. We will be in touch as soon as we have a decision for you." Not sure if timing was a coincidence or if my call was the cause of the email.

I'm over 4 months waiting on WUSTL, UW Madison, Iowa, Bloomington, and Minnesota. I've heard from everywhere else...

I applied to >20 schools (between Oct and Dec mostly), and have decisions at around 10...

i applied to GW mid december and haven't heard anything. I got email confirmations from the other 12 schools I applied to within two weeks of applying.

I don't think they read this thread, although they have been known to read these boards...I'm chalking it up to coincidence.

NYU took a couple months to let me know my application was received. The rest were pretty quick.
