USNWR Specialties Rankings = totally useless?

Post by amorfati » Fri Jan 07, 2011 12:26 pm

Is there any value whatsoever to the USNWR law specialty rankings?

For instance, I was looking at the international law rankings and saw that American, which is ranked 48th overall, is ranked 8th in international law, ahead of Duke and UVA. Seems a little fishy to me... I could see, say, the top 14 shifting around a bit for a given specialty, but choosing American over Duke on this basis sounds pretty absurd. Thoughts?

This has been discussed a lot. No, there is no merit to the speciality rankings whatsoever. People say it is just a fun way to keep TTT's involved in the rankings process.

Yes, they are useless. In fact, the general rankings are, for the most part, totally useless as well.
