Huge gap between UGPA and LSDAS GPA Forum

Hi everyone, been a reader for awhile, first post. Would appreciate some help with a particular problem. I tried looking for threads with similar scenarios but didn't find one quite as extreme? Also sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I'm a transfer student who did terrible in a lot of non-transferable courses in addition to also dropping a few at my community college before I transfered. As a result there is a significant difference between my UGPA and LSDAS GPA.

My Academic Summary currently on the LSAC website looks like:

Degree (Summary) GPA: 3.76
Degree Semester Hours: 50.5
Cumulative GPA: 3.20
Cumulative Semester Hours: 117.5

I was wondering if anyone knows how badly does such a big difference affects my chances for acceptance? Will law schools immediately just see the 3.2 and disregard the UGPA and upward trend completely? Should I bothering writing an addendum to to explain the discrepancy if I was working a lot while at my JC?


Finally, I know this probably belongs more in the "What are my chances?" section but if I got a 169 on the LSAT do I still have a shot at USC or UCLA w/ early decision with
that GPA?

If someone could help me out with these questions I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

They will mainly see the 3.2.

Don't write an addendum, it will come off as whining.

The bad part is the 3.2, not the size of the difference.

With a 3.2, your chances are good at neither of them even with a 170+. They don't like low GPAs. You could ED to USC if you really wanted to but I would expect a rejection there.

I think he forgot about Davis, Hastings, Loyola, Pepperdine, etc.

Well, thats not good to hear for my chances. My GPA went from 3.2 to 3.03. Even with URM status and 170s no real shot at UCLA or USC?

UCLA is public so your URM probably won't be taken into account there. I think 170s is a shot though, moreso USC than UCLA.

UCLA likes high GPAs even for URMs so it will be an uphill battle. USC will definitely be easier to get into. A friend of mine got into USC last cycle with a 3.2/161 (AA male) and he applied after Dec scores came out.
