Cheesy to list Collegiate Athletic Awards
On the part where they ask for a list of awards, in your attachment is it ridiculous to have a small section of athletic awards (all american/all conference, etc.) at the bottom after your academic awards?

Definitely not cheesy at all. You earned them, let the world know it. Besides, there may be some sports fans reading over your apps and the awards may elicit a positive response from them.
Good luck!

Agreed. People who think it's unimportant won't be turned off by it. People who like it will read into it that you're naturally competitive and work hard.

Re: Cheesy to list Collegiate Athletic Awards
I listed them all pretty condensed: all-american, captainship, championships, etc in about 3 lines. I felt like it showed the dedication/talent for the sport, and made sense when I wrote down time commitment (if asked) of 25+hrs/week for the activity.btr77 wrote:On the part where they ask for a list of awards, in your attachment is it ridiculous to have a small section of athletic awards (all american/all conference, etc.) at the bottom after your academic awards?

I believe you mean Varsity-level sports as opposed to a Club-level.trickydicky wrote:depends on the sport.

I listed athletic awards, as well as the scholar athlete awards I got from the conference. Always made for interesting discussion at interviews.

I feel like you should put it on there, I mean being an All-American is no easy task and it speaks volumes about you. It shows that you are one of the best in the country at something, and you have a competitive nature and are able to step up to the challenge. Also, allows admissions to see that you were more than just a student in college and that you dedicated yourself to something that requires intense preparation and dedication.

If it is varsity level then hands down, I would include the honors. I assumed All-American and All-Conference would refer to national intercollegiate athletics with a governing body (NAIA, NCAA, NJCAA, etc)BrownBears09 wrote:I believe you mean Varsity-level sports as opposed to a Club-level.trickydicky wrote:depends on the sport.

Exceptions for including club level sports in your resume/awards would probably be for women's NCAA emerging sports (LinkRemoved) that include equestrian, rugby, squash, and sand volleyball or something very similar for men like maybe boxing (LinkRemoved). For example, if you were an All-American women's rugby player, you probably played club, but I would still include it because it has no national varsity counterpart.
With all that being said, the odds are you played a regular sport.

Re: Cheesy to list Collegiate Athletic Awards
I shouldn't include any intra-collegiate records right? I set a record for my team but it wasn't an NCAA record.
And should I include that I and my team competed in the NCAA championships? I mentioned the team... if they were interested I suppose they could google.
I've turned in everything, so I'd have to make an addendum.

Those tidbits aren't significant enough to warrant an addendum.
