After ED acceptance?

Post by gendefect » Sun Dec 12, 2010 12:06 pm

I was just accepted by the school I ED'd to. They say I need to inform all the other schools I applied to of this fact and remove myself from consideration.

A couple of questions:

Is this definitely true? I mean, obviously I'm going to go where I ED'd, and that's fine, but I would just be curious to see where else I would have gotten in, just to know. Is that definitely not okay?

And assuming it's not okay, what is the proper way to inform the other schools I applied to? Is it just an email sent to the admissions department or something more formal?

Just a quick email will do. Tell them you've been accepted to another school and under their early decision policy you are bound to withdraw all you outstanding applications.

Not OK, since you agreed to withdraw all pending applications after the ED acceptance.

E-mail should be OK, but a couple of schools might insist on a letter.

Ya, good point. I didn't really think about it that way, since I wouldn't actually be going. But I guess it would force someone onto a wait list who could otherwise be accepted regularly, which would obviously be much preferable.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll write all the schools tomorrow.
