NEED ADVICE -- 3.5 LOW 170S
Hey, I have a 3.5x and low 170s (not going exact for anonymity reasons). i was recently held at my first choice school at which i ed'd
I am considering my options going forward.
1.) Is it smart for me to ED to UVA?
OR
2.) Is it smart for me to apply ED to GW?
Is the diff b/w sticker at UVA and a full ride to GW worth it if your goal is a good starting salary with growth potential?
Is it dumb to ED when I have not been denied from my first choice school?
Any feedback is helpful as I'm on my own in this process.
Please don't quote as I hope to delete it after the tomorrow.

wow, just ride it out and relax, cast a wide net throw out a few more applications. Was the ED Columbia? there is still NYU, CHi, Penn, Michigan, you will get something.

Re: NEED ADVICE -- 3.5 LOW 170S
This is going to sound like a cliche TLS response, but ED to UVA... if you like it.
If you would be happy there then you should absolutely ED there
Unless you have work experience and then you should ED to NU
haha- may be cliche. But it's good advice.
Do not ED to GW. You have a definitely shot at UVA, especially if you went to a decent school and your PS is decent.
You probably wont get into NYU or Chicago... very unlikely
Penn and Michigan... maybe... but probably only if you'd ED'd.
Go for UVA.
Good luck. HTH.

If Penn doesn't let me in after fall grades, I'll be at GTown...I feel ya. I would prob ED to UVA if I were you. It was my plan all along, but I mistakenly applied to UVA way early RD (planning to switch to ED if Penn didn't work out) and they rejected me a couple weeks ago.

No deadline for UVA. I would take UVA sticker over GW full ride.
Edit: Also, you can find super-low rent in Charlottesville

but that's just my opinion. you need to do what's right for you.
most of TLS will agree with Mike and I though, most likely.

as you two know where i ed'd, what is ur call on UVA ED vs. riding it out? how long can i ride it out while keeping an ed to UVA a viable option? i've held my waiver as a secret weapon in my back pocket all of this time.

+2. I would pick UVA sticker over GWU pretty fast and I'm pretty debt adverse. Maybe an argument can be made if someone knows they want to stay in DC and they absolutely do not want Biglaw (and thus no debt is of huge assistance).s0ph1e2007 wrote:+1Mike12188 wrote:No deadline for UVA. OP- Depends on what your first choice school is. If it's Columbia, that's probably not going to happen. Chicago and NYU are possible, depending on how high the 170 is (maybe like 172/173 for NYU, 171/172 for Chicago?--just doing this off of memory from research last year, go to hourumd.com and do some range searches). If it's Penn or Mich, still possible, but now it starts to make more sense to ED to UVA unless location (or some other factor) makes a huge difference. If my goal was MVP, I would rather have a better shot at one of MVP (even if it wasn't my favorite among the 3), then take my chances of getting shut out at all three. I could understand not ED'ing for a shot at NYU or Chicago though, but there's nothing wrong with wanting to play it safer and ED to UVA.

No clue. My gut instinct would be no, but I don't know when they start dinging people with around these numbers. Can you switch to ED if they've WL'd you?justadude55 wrote:would waiting another month for uva ed make a significant difference?
I would go through either hourumd.com or LSN and look at when UVA starts to ding/WL people with your numbers. Schools can vary a lot in this regard.

Re: NEED ADVICE -- 3.5 LOW 170S
I'm right there with ya. Duke requested fall grades, and I'll be going crazy if I hit 4.0 and still get waitlisted/rejected.Mike12188 wrote:If Penn doesn't let me in after fall grades, I'll be at GTown...I feel ya. ...But with that said, I'd probably shoot for UVA ED. I would be nervous going to the second-best school in a very tough market, even if I was going with a full ride.

Re: NEED ADVICE -- 3.5 LOW 170S
I find myself wondering how much of UVA's class is comprised of people who wandered onto TLS, were told to ED UVA, did it, and several months later were wondering what the hell they were doing in Virginia?

Re: NEED ADVICE -- 3.5 LOW 170S
Honestly, why would you ED UVA? I think you have a solid shot at Michigan and Penn (and possibly Berkeley, depending on softs) without ED, which (IMO) are better options than UVA (though I seem to just not like UVA).
You also have a decent shot at Chicago and NYU, so why would you not try it?
Judging by my cycle so far, it seems like softs do matter when your numbers are borderline (or even under both medians) (and I don't even think I had exceptional softs), so just make sure you have a well-composed application, and blanket the T14 (except HYS).
And PLEASE don't ED at Georgetown Waitlist (GW).
