Waitlisted by Washington and Lee
I just got an email and a letter from Washington and Lee regarding my waitlisted decision. According to them the only thing that I could possibly do is to visit them on Preview Day (which I can't because I'm working in Japan right now), otherwise they suggest me to wait patiently for their final decision.
I've never been through this before, and I'm wondering how likely is it for them to actually admit a candidate from their waitlist? Can anyone offer some experience or advice? Thanks a lot.

I also was waitlisted by them two weeks ago. They say they don't rank their waitlist....how is this going to work out?

I was surprised how fast they got back to me, I submitted my App on Dec 1, it's been only ten days. Not sure if that's a good sign.

No first hand experience, but plenty of others have posted similar tales on here.tepper wrote:Can anyone offer some experience or advice? Thanks a lot.
Send a letter of continued interest. Send a Why... essay if they'd accept one.
Of course the surest way to get off a waitlist would be to retake the LSAT in February and increase your score by a couple of points.

I'd snail mail, but e-mail is sufficient, especially if there's someone in the admissions office you've talked with enough that they know you.tepper wrote:albanach, thanks for the advice. I thought about retaking the LSAT, I currently have a 164. But then when I recall the days I was preparing for the LSAT....total nightmares.
I'll write them a LOCI. btw, should LOCI be mailed or emailed? Thanks.

No doubt I have the lowest LSAT on this W&L waiting list. This is so stressful

I applied to W&L on 12/3, and got waitlisted on 12/9 (I have a ~3.6 GPA- ~3.8 over my last 4 semesters- and a 161 LSAT). Whether the 6 day turnaround is good or bad, who friggin knows

They are very fast. According to their blog they've been working non-stop to read all the applications. Of course they could just be saying that.Papa Smurf wrote:I applied to W&L on 12/3, and got waitlisted on 12/9 (I have a ~3.6 GPA- ~3.8 over my last 4 semesters- and a 161 LSAT). I didn't have quite as fast of a turnaround time because of the Thanksgiving holiday. FYI - I have very similar #'s and was accepted to W&L.
I also know they concentrate on C&F big time. If you have some marks against you on C&F = ding/waitlist.

How did you hear about the wailist decision? E-mail, status checker, mail? I have similar numbers and am kind of expecting the same fate...queenlizzie13 wrote:I applied to W&L on 12/3, and got waitlisted on 12/9 (I have a ~3.6 GPA- ~3.8 over my last 4 semesters- and a 161 LSAT). Re: Waitlisted by Washington and Lee
I got two emails that day, one saying "hey, we're gonna decide by 5 pm EST today," and another one right at 5 waitlisting me. I got a letter in the mail that said the same thing about a week later.wokeemilo wrote:How did you hear about the wailist decision? E-mail, status checker, mail? My C&F is fine, no criminal record, school suspension/discipline, etc. What kind of softs do you have?queenlizzie13 wrote:They are very fast. I have okay softs...nothing out of this world though. I do have pretty substantial WE for being only a year out of undergrad, but other than that the usual suspects (clubs, athletics, honor societies, etc.)

I was WL'd last year (2009). From Dec to August. (8 months). Low LSAT high GPA. Got in tho. After several LOCIs. G'luck.

Re: Waitlisted by Washington and Lee
i'm in the same boat here, wl with above median gpa and below median lsat. looking at lsn, it looks like there are a ton of other waitlisted people, and we're competing to get into a class of less than 150. probably going to be a long wait.

I checked the W&L Waitlisted Students page and apparently they offer telephone interviews for those who cannot visit campus. Has anyone tried this out?

Re: Waitlisted by Washington and Lee
From my experience (admitted 1L), W&L looks very favorably on DS and URM status. However, it is an overall approach to candidates. You have to offer a more than that. That's just, as they say, icing on the cake. I should have posted this earlier on TLS but if you're a URM and seriously considering W&L, getting the application in as soon as possible with good softs and so-so LSAT and GPA seems like a virtual open door policy. Have attended conferences with administrators that are really looking for ways to draw a larger URM applicant base. Also, they are really wanting more females to come to W&L. My class is ridiculously male heavy, about 65% from my understanding. Some thing it's the heavy greek frat mentality here for the undergrad side. But hey, ladies if you're looking for an overabundance of man meat, W&L is where you'll find it.SrLaw wrote:I am 25th percentile LSAT and 50th percentile GPA. I retook in December sk a better LSAT may be happening. I self selected myself as a URM and wrote a DS. Does anyone know how W&L views DS and how does the self select URM work. W&L is by far choice number 1 for me.
