Is faxing LORs a good strategy to speed things up?
The LSAC site recommends against it, but it sounds like this can be a much more efficient way of getting letters through. Do a lot of people do this?

R6 will yell at you... but I did it, and had them processed in less than a day... From what I can tell it hasn't affected my cycle negativelyixwad wrote:The LSAC site recommends against it, but it sounds like this can be a much more efficient way of getting letters through. Re: Is faxing LORs a good strategy to speed things up?
There are quite a few threads out there on faxing LORs. I'd recommend searching the forums for more info.ixwad wrote:The LSAC site recommends against it, but it sounds like this can be a much more efficient way of getting letters through. Do a lot of people do this?
I had a backup writer fax my 2nd LOR (since my original 2nd one has not shown up). She also mailed a hard copy. The faxed copy arrived and was processed within two days of her sending it.
It's not recommended because faxes are usually not very clear, and there's also a chance that faxing will mess up the barcode.
Edit: grammar

My recommenders said they mailed it over a week and a half ago. No activity. I asked them to fax it today.

I suggest sending it both ways. I had 2/3 of my LOR writers fax and snail mail a copy to LSAC while 1 just snail mailed and I ran into no problems. All LORs cleared within 1 day for fax, about 4-6 for snail mail, and i'm on the westcoast. YMMV though.

I faxed, it was up the next day. I did have my recommender mail a 2nd copy as a failsafe, recommend you do the same.

Update: Had both recommender fax it yesterday. Both are up today.
They mailed it over a week and a half ago. I suggest faxing. Would you rather wait up to 2 weeks or have it upload within a day or two?

I faxed mine and it was up in less than an hour. The day before thanksgiving.

Re: Is faxing LORs a good strategy to speed things up?
People keep saying in all of the fax threads that the issue with faxing is that the barcode will get messed up or unclear and then they won't process it...
Mine don't have barcodes anywhere to be found.
My first two LORs were mailed in, with LSAC coversheets with no barcode to be found. From the dates that my professor and supervisor told me that they were mailed, it took about a week and a half for the to show up on my LSAC account.

The thing that really gets me about philly and this militant anti-fax stance is... don't lawyers have to deal with faxed documents all the damn time? Like... faxed official documents? With important stuff? And things?

I faxed two of my LORs. Make sure that your recommenders will fax the LORs via their own fax machines. That way LSAC will know that you are not the person faxing them (given they mention their fax number on the LORs)

I had a LOR writer mail it twice, no movement either time over a month. Faxed- posted the next day.
