Did I screw up?

Post by mcnabb5 » Mon Nov 22, 2010 8:31 pm

In my EA app, I acknowledged in the "why X?" essay that the school was my #1 choice, which is true. My question is, did that hurt my chances for scholarship money? My LSAT is above their 75th, with a GPA under their 25th. According to LSN, people with my same numbers have been admitted with generous scholarship $$$ in previous years.

Ya. This critical error will cost you scholarship money and most likely lead to a yield protect.

..

OP you're fine. I think you only mess with scholarship chances if it's binding ED.

+1

Unless you applied with a binding early decision, you still have to actually accept an offer. Schools tend to offer scholarship money to strong applicants to push their medians. If your numbers are in fact in line with applicants who recieved scholarship money last year you certainly have a shot at money this cycle, assuming the school in question did not seriously bump their medians.

In short, don't worry about revealing a strong preference to attend; it may even help prevent a potential waitlist.

People say, "you're my favorite" all the time, I doubt they care. It could only help you get in.

its threads like this that wish I had sent in a few extra apps to auto-admit schools with an addendum saying something like "I really have no desire or intention to attend school X" and see how many I got into. I'd bet it would have been at least 50%.
