Early applicant, no decision yet. Good sign?

Post by HopefulFish » Mon Nov 22, 2010 12:12 am

In my cycle last year, I was rejected within 2 weeks from most top schools (UCLA, Berkeley, NorthWestern, Michigan etc).
Apparently, some schools have tiers of admissions process where 1 adcom (the gate keeper) will admit some auto-admits with 75% and over numbers, reject auto-rejects below the median, and allow the remaining bulk to actually go through the review process.

If you haven't heard back for over a month after applying early, is it safe to assume that you're at least past the initial rejection stage?

It may be more likely that you're past any "early stage," but don't assume anything definitively or deduce things to the point of certainty from previous cycles.

It is certainly a better sign than a rejection letter I guess.

its a sign that you need to find another hobby to take your mind off trying to figure out what the admissions people are thinking about you.

Until you hear otherwise, assume you have some shot at getting a seat and move on with your day.

This thread can be helpful in determining when you should hear back from Michigan (according to when you applied): http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 2&t=137012
