i would not write it. If you get WL, then write the essay. otherwise just send it and forget it.

If I recall correctly, the "Why Illinois" essay is only supposed to be 200 words. With your numbers I don't really think skipping the "essay" would hurt you at all. At the same time, its only 200 words, which really doesn't require much effort.
