quick urgent question

Post by otherside220 » Sat Nov 13, 2010 4:46 pm

the columbia ED deadline is november 15, and i just realized that it must be sent through the post. usps is closed and fedex/ups do not pick up on saturdays and sundays. does the nov 15 deadline mean that the application must be postmarked by nov 15 latest, or that they must receive it by the 15th?

Almost always postmarked, but the school is the one who sets that requirement. Call the school and inquire. As a backup: send it in and hope they don't notice.

If you live in a decent sized city, there should be a main post office still open. Go to the USPS web site and search for it.

Or a FedEx/Kinkos place. Usually you can send FedExes out until around 8ish on a Saturday.

i live in suburbs and all the post offices by me closed by 1pm today, and are closed tomorrow.

this is the language on the form: "if you have chosen to apply as an early decision candidate, please complete this form, print, sign, and send it to the office of admissions, no later than november 15."

it could sound like "send it" no later than nov 15 means that it should be postmarked by that day, yeah?

It depends on whether CLS requires applications to be received by 11/15, or just postmarked. Bottom line: if they say it has to be received, there's no way you're going to argue an ambiguity in application language to get an exception.

To me this sounds like it needs to be sent (not received) no later than November 15, so if you FedEx it out on the 15th you should be fine, but that is just my opinion.

How about scanning? Are you able to scan your application so that you can email it to the adcoms today/tomorrow, and indicate that the original is being FedExed for delivery on Tuesday?

Am I missing something here? Is the post office closed on Monday?

I had the same thought! lol. Issue is that if they want it in their office by the 15th, Monday is too late for the post office.

Right, but if they want it in the office by the 15th, OP is screwed no matter what. His only option at this point is to send it on Monday and see what happens.

Don't FedEx and/or UPS have same-day delivery if it's to and from a major city?
FedEx does

Well, I stand corrected then. Would it be delivered before COB though?

He/she could get it picked up today and delivered next business day (options for morning or afternoon)

Not only am I too slow for this thread, I'm also bad at quoting. Sigh.

I'll tell you the same thing some random guy told John Cusack in "Con Air":

If you have a fast car, you can drive it...to CLS.

Wait, why can't you submit it electronically through LSAC??

ED contracts cannot be submitted electronically, only through regular "snail" mail. At least, that's how it is with the one's I know about.

Their web site says "Early Decision candidates must complete their application by November 15" so that looks like a "receive by" deadline.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
