What shall I wear to the Vandy's alumni interview?
Just arranged one in the cafe at B&N, not sure if I should dress up. Would that seem to be too formal?

I would like to know this as well since it's at a B&N.

Button-down and slacks. Or whatever the female equivalent of a button-down and slacks is.

My theory is you are never negatively looked upon for being overdressed...but you are if you are underdressed.

I wore a suit and tie but the interview was at his firm, so everyone was dressed that way.

I wore a suit just in case (it was at a firm) but I was definitely overdressed, the secretary was in a sweater and khakis. On the other hand, better to be overdressed than underdressed, and I didn't feel awkward or anything.

Wear a suit. It's a job interview.

Business casual should be TCR. I had an interview in a cafe and I wore a pencil skirt and a nice blouse, no jacket.
My Vandy interview was in a firm and I wore a suit, and was overdressed.

Suit wouldn't match with a B&N. Definitely go business casual

TCR is to ask your interviewer if business casual is appropriate.

I wore slacks and a polo shirt...however it was a weekend, at a cafe, quite warm, and my interviewer wore jeans and flip flops. Interview was very laid back.

Yeah yeah, I know it's been posted before. But virtually everyone looks better in a suit. And if you look better, your interviewer thinks more highly of you. If you can't be relaxed and look good in a suit, you're in the wrong field.

+1, sorry about that; I am a guy. I think I will just wear a shirt with a tie, w/o jacket. Maybe a V-neck sweater to go with the shirt and tie. Would that be business casual?

Business Casual (button down and slacks) unless otherwise specified. Nobody is going to ask you to show up to an interview in the middle of a work day at a barnes and noble in a suit. My guy met me at a starbucks and specifically asked me not to dress formal. I wore nice boat shoes, nice jeans, and a button down. It went well.

No. A v-neck sweater with a shirt and a tie will make you look like a dweeb. Same for just a shirt and a tie with no jacket. Either wear a suit, shirt and no tie - that's not business casual, but you'll look pro. Or go business casual - just a shirt and pants.kkfish wrote:+1, sorry about that; I am a guy. Excellent. Supports the school colors. Classy, but not too formal. You'll fit right in.prezidentv8 wrote:[img black and gold suit]

Lol, np, sorry for being a snot. I think I'm forgetting that I've interviewed a decent number of people over time.kkfish wrote:Thanks for the dressing tips

The thing about the suit, is that it's really hard to over dress for an interview. At least for job interviews, I guess these law school things may be different. But usually you WANT to stand out - eskimo said she was overdressed for an interview that was at a firm's office. That's a good thing; if people notice you and are asking your interviewer afterwards, who was that girl you were interviewing, it's a good thing.
Either way, it's far easier to apologize for looking too good, than for looking like a slob.
Edit: I should probably throw a caveat in here that I just like wearing suits though. So take it for what it's worth.

I'm a big fan of of a nice blazer / sport coat when you're not exactly how formal to be... partially because I'm a cheap bastard and you can wear them in more situations.
