Faxing LOR's

Post by whymeohgodno » Sun Nov 07, 2010 12:04 pm

Has anyone had any problems with this?

Also how long does it take on average if you send letters by mail?

I think it takes anywhere from 3 to 7 business days for LORs to process after LSAC receives them. I'm not sure about faxing, but I've heard it can be faster, can't confirm though.

Faxes usually post within 0-1 business days, while snail mail posts within a week but could take up to 2 weeks.

I'm just worried because it said on the LOR form that sometimes faxes get the barcode blurred?

If you're worried just use a professional faxing service like Kinko's.

Hmm...sending it by snail mail can take up to 2 weeks?

I may have to email my professors and ask them to fax it in if they can.

Do you think this would be asking for too much? The professors I asked are pretty oldschool and I'm not sure if they even know how to work a fax machine.

If they're willing to let you see the LOR, then it wouldn't be an issue for you to fax it for them.

Fax fax. My stuff got posted within 24 hours. If it comes through blurry they'll call you.

Others have reported that LSAC just ignored their blurry faxed LOR, so YMMV.

Do you think it would be appropriate for me to ask them to fax through email? Or is this something I should go see them face to face and ask?

Tell them to make their admins do it.

Fax. Professors have the admin folks in their departments do this for them. Just send them an email stating that it takes 1-2 days if faxed and up to two weeks if mailed. They will understand and have their admin folks do it. Ask them to let you know when they fax it and then if you dont see it posted within a few days, call LSAC.

Also, not to be a dick, but the search function is your friend. This question has been asked and answered many times.

If you fax make sure to include a phone number or email your recommender checks. Mine came across blurry even after paying $5 to kinkos. The LSAC sent a letter to my recommender saying that it didn't come through, but that took about a week.
