Duke Round II ED?
Anyone have experience with this or know what kind of a boost it gives? I'm sitting at 3.83/167 and currently ED'ing somewhere else--in the likelihood that I get rejected, I'm planning on ED'ing to Duke.
Would I be better off just sending in an RD app to Duke now to get it in early, or do you think that the later ED boost would increase my odds?

I'd also like to know more about this... I had no idea Duke does two rounds of ED. Would some knowledgeable person care to shed some insight on what exactly Round 2 ED is, why Duke does it (what purpose does it serve?), and the kind of numbers necessary for admission? Would an applicant need to be a bit stronger than a Round 1 ED? Thanks.

+1 does it boost admission chances for splitters or does forcing them to give you a decision in such a short time hurt you?

But would a round 2 ED applicant need to be a bit stronger than a round 1 ED applicant? And why does Duke even do this? It's hardly "early" anymore... it just sounds like a way to nab those dinged at other T14s ED

Re: Duke Round II ED?
Duke has only had their ED option for a few cycles (I believe this is the second?), so there isn't a ton of data on it. I would assume it works in much the same way as UVA's; that is, it gives a noticeable boost, but that boost diminishes the longer you wait. If Duke is your first choice, though, Round II ED can only help you.
FWIW, I originally applied under Round I but was requested to submit additional information (fall grades and "Why Duke" essay), so I'm now being considered under Round II. Hopefully I'll be a Round II success story when all is said and done.

I have a similar question. Almost identical stats to OP (3.8/167, GPA should go up a couple hundredths of a point in a week or so) , do y'all think it looks bad to apply to Duke RD now and then switch my application to ED at their deadline?

I'll make this quick... Does a 167/3.65 have a shot with Round 2 ED?

Since you're under both medians, probably not. But if Duke is your first choice, it can't hurt to try. Good luck.fish tacos wrote:I'll make this quick... Does a 167/3.65 have a shot with Round 2 ED?
