the directions for michigan's supplemental essays state: "Each essay should be about one page"
would it reflect poorly on me if an essay is 1.5 pages? (ive really tried cutting it down but can't seem to)
thanks

You could get someone else to do the cutting for you? Sometimes it takes another pair of eyes to see what can be cut.

Assume that nothing on the second page will be read (you'd be shocked how often this is the case).
Then revise accordingly.

Re: "Each essay should be about one page"
Hmmm, I took the guidance a little less stringently. My "Why Mich" essay is three lines over a page and I think it's fine. If they had planned not to read past the first page, I think they would have said "Each essay should be no more than one page." The "about" specifically implies a little flexibility in length. That said, 1.5 pages is probably pushing it and it would be best to get someone smart to read for cuts.
