Re: When to apply?
I'm in the same boat as you. I think that it boils down to whether the expected increase in your LSAT score compensates for losing out on the benefits of early admissions.
For me, I have a 170 but hope to get around a 175. Since my GPA was 3.0, the LSAT increase is worth it in my case. But you may be different.

Re: When to apply?
well it depends on what schools you want, and how far way from their LSAT goals. Apply early is always helpful, but if you register for a retake now for Dec. many school will hold your file until that score comes out. So it's up to you to take shots what what you have, or hope to get a better score on the retake. I would develop a strategy that includes school for both scenarios, otherwise you risk not getting in anywhere (but then just study hard and retake in June).
ETA: many schools ask for future LSAT registrations and they can see it on your report anyway.

Re: When to apply?
You have a nice GPA, if you can get to 165+ you will have a lot better choices than SMU. UT is not out of the question, and you can get money too. If you want to retake anyway, don't mind waiting a year, it's going to really benefit you in many ways if you can devote time to study and raise your LSAT whatever amount. Then you can apply early in Sept and get the early bird advantage too.

Then do both. Apply to one set of schools and ask them not to hold your file, apply to another set of schools and ask them to hold for Dec. school. You will make out ok if you increase your score, or if you don't. Hedge your bets.

Re: When to apply?
With that LSAT you are letting your great GPA go to waste. How much did you study for the LSAT?KAM wrote:Well I am only applying to 5 schools. My LSAT was a 157 and GPA is 3.86. I should be accetped to 4/5 schools with that score but my first choice is SMU and with those numbers it is possible I would be accepted but doubtful. Would it be better to go ahead and apply early to SMU and maybe hope I can get at least waitlisted or wait and apply after next LSAT? My LSAT average was 160 so I think I could do better but I don't want the delay in applying to hurt my chances.
If you could buckle down this next month and get 165+ in Dec you'd be saving yourself hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholly money and future earning potential.
As far as timing, send all your apps now. Tell the safeties they can look at your app now, but let the higher ranked schools wait.

Re: When to apply?
4 months and you only took 20 PTs? Clearly you were doing something wrong.KAM wrote:I studied strictly for 4 months. I took 20 practice tests. I scored higher than 157 on 9 of them. I feel like I gave it everything I could, I just don't know if I have it in me to study for it again. I am discourged at this point so I am really doubting myself.

Re: When to apply?
The first 2 months I read all 3 Powerscore Bibles and did all questions through preptests 19-38. The last 2 months I just took timed pracitce tests but I also took each test twice. The first one timed and then second time not-timed without checking my score just to see my true potential. I was completely dedicated to my studying.
