ORM Disadvantage?
Hey folks,
I am an ORM (over-represented minority). More specifically I am a Jew from a wealthy family.
Do you think I should try to hide this in my applications? I am a little concerned there may be some discrimination against the typical Jewish law school applicant from an affluent background.

You do not list your income or your faith on your application.canuck wrote:Hey folks,

Incorrect, many applications ask for your family income (e.g. Berkeley) and some even ask for your faith (e.g. Notre Dame).bdubs wrote:

As far as I can tell, law school admissions is race-neutral on the ORM end - unlike just about every other institutions of higher education.

When you eventually get to law school, I want you to look at all of your fellow 1L's and count the number of URM's you see. Typically, URM's as a whole make up 15-20% or less of a given class.
Are you telling me that adcomms need to discriminate against you so that 12 people in your class of 200 can be admitted?

Apply to SMU. They like rich people. At the very least they don't discriminate against them.

In college admissions, ORM's tend to subsidize both URM's and legacies, athletes, and development candidates (i.e. their average numerical qualifications are even higher than those of white students). Not so much in law school.Aqualibrium wrote:When you eventually get to law school, I want you to look at all of your fellow 1L's and count the number of URM's you see.
