Cornell Early Action

Post by Sentry » Thu Oct 07, 2010 1:08 pm

Is there a specific time frame for Cornell's early action decision? Is it like Duke's 10 day policy or more of a "we'll try and get to it as soon as we can" kind of deal?

Doesn't seem so early when you applied in September and obsessively check your status checker. :)

I submitted Duke PT last night and have already checked my status checker 4 times.

Hahaha. Almost makes me wish they weren't so prompt with the status checkers!

Has anyone gone complete at cornell? I submitted on 9/20 and my current status is processing with a status date of 9/28.

You can count on me! Are we applying to all the same schools? I am UT and up minus 1 or 2.

I think we have a lot of overlap, I'm Stanford on down to gw/fordham minus 8 or 9 :)

Not even going to take a shot at HY? I guess we will be nervous over Stanford together soon.

Nah, not with my gpa  99.99% chance of being an auto reject at Stanford too but they do like science types so I thought, if I'm going to waste $100 why not waste it there?

Do you guys know whether being accepted EA means definitely not receiving any merit scholarship $$?

ED is probably what you're thinking of, since it's binding. In those cases, I would think merit aid would be less generous since they don't have to woo you to come.

EA really just ensures a more prompt decision and wouldn't affect merit aid.

Was there an EA contract or form for Cornell? Or was it just that if you submit by a certain point you are considered EA?

Note if you don't check yes on question 8 of the form, they won't process you as EA. Last year, they would call people to ask them if they are sure they don't want to do EA if they have there forms in on time. But the safest bet is to check yes on 8 and then submit before the EA deadline.

Also, yes you can get merit aid if accepted EA, but you will not be notified until much later (Feb - Mar) of what merit aid you will receive.

Edit: Also as someone else said, yes you get the decision early, but it still seems to take forever to get since you submitted so early. Also note that "defer" is a possible decision. Plenty of people last year who applied EA were deferred to RD.
