If applying early decision on Oct.1, should I wait on the decision before submitting other applications?

If I do this, will it hurt my chances with the six schools to which I am not applying ED?

Please advise if you have a grasp on rolling admissions processes.

Though it depends on the school, you likely won't get the ED decision until December.

If your other apps are ready go ahead and submit them considering that applying in December is a bit late.

Apply to everything along with ED. Waiting will hurt, since ED decisions can take a month or more to decide (save for UVA's super fast 15 day ED turnaround). If you ED and get in, then you need to withdraw, and the other schools will prob WL or reject you for YP. Otherwise, you may not get in ED, but get in elsewhere RD.

If it is a school that guarantees a turnaround like UVA then I would wait and potentially save a lot of money in app fees. If they don't guarantee a turnaround then certainly you should submit elsewhere or else you run the risk of getting blanked on acceptances to schools you want to go to.

I applied ED to Penn, sent in apps to UVA, Cornell, and will send in GTown Friday. I did not apply to any safeties, and only will if I get dinged from Penn

Generally yes. Read the ED contracts for both schools and/or contact their admissions offices to verify.
