Organize resume by date or importance?

Post by JennBNYC » Tue Sep 28, 2010 1:11 pm

Hopefully this isn't confusing, but basically, do you order it by date or importance?

For example, there are awards I received that have these ranges:
2007 (most impressive, but one year only)
2003-2007 (medium impressiveness)
2003-2007 (medium impressiveness)
2004-2007 (high impressiveness)

I don't know how to rank them. They all end on the same date, but I don't want to put the longest ones first necessarily because they're not all that special. I have the same issue with jobs and activities. I want to put the best things toward the top, but that may not make sense chronologically.

Advice, please? :-)

I would go by starting date since they all end at the same time.

I would do it chronologically. If it is minor, you don't necessarily need to put it on your resume (unless the school asks you to list everything).

I wouldn't necessarily say "minor," but just not AS impressive. Plus, some did ask for every little details (annoying). I think I'll go chronologically; I don't want them to think I can't put things in order, lol.

Just put them most recent ---> oldest in terms of starting date if they all end the same. That doubles to get the impressive ones up front.

Arrange by ending date starting with the one that ended most recently.
