UCLA wants a 2 page PS.......
It clearly specifies 2 pages double spaced no smaller then size 12....
Mine, which i will be using for all my other schools don't hold a max restriction so small
Should i adjust my PS to 2 pages for all the schools (i dont want to have 2 separate ones and i dont want to butcher a longer one to compact it to 2 pages) .... My PS looks like it will be closer to the pages..
Thanks

YOu said you dont want to butcher your PS to compact it to 2 pages, but that sounds exactly what you are doing if you are going to "adjust" it to bring it down to 2 pages for all schools. If you are comfortable with what you have, keep it and send it to all the schools.
Then adjust your UCLA and whatever other schools require 2 page, 12pt font.

Edit your current version down to two pages. You might find you actually like the edited down version better. If not, just have two versions.JD=Doctor wrote:It clearly specifies 2 pages double spaced no smaller then size 12....

Aren't most schools 2 pages, double spaced? With the exception of the 12 point font?

I think the vast majority allow for more than 2 pages, but 2 pages is the smallest that I've seen. It is often "as long as you like."CastleRock wrote:Aren't most schools 2 pages, double spaced? With the exception of the 12 point font?
To the OP: Edit it down for the UCLA essay. Submit this one to UCLA. Submit whichever you like better to schools which allow over 2 pages.

Which is usually accompanied by saying what you need to say as succinctly as possible (IIRC).bk187 wrote:CastleRock wrote: I think the vast majority allow for more than 2 pages, but 2 pages is the smallest that I've seen. It is often "as long as you like."

Most T14's are 2 pages, unless I remembered incorrectly. Harvard stipulates 11pt min. which is what I am using. I guess I should strike some things out for UCLA.bk187 wrote:I think the vast majority allow for more than 2 pages, but 2 pages is the smallest that I've seen. Appreqs.com is out of date but only lists 5 of the T14 as 2 pages (though some are 2-3 or 2-4).r6_philly wrote:Most T14's are 2 pages, unless I remembered incorrectly. "as long as you like" is the first test. If your PS is longer than 2 pages, you've failed.bk187 wrote:I think the vast majority allow for more than 2 pages, but 2 pages is the smallest that I've seen. Re: UCLA wants a 2 page PS.......
the 12 pt font is the problem, that's what has gotten me too. I have a 2 page version and a 3 page version for the schools that let me throw them 3 pages. my 2 page version is 11 font, and goes from the left-most space at the top line (obviously) to the right most space of the bottom line. pain in the ass to strike more things out of it!
but having 2 personal statements is something i'd reccomend. let's you go with more for schools that will allow it, lets you follow the rules of the ones that dont.

Re: UCLA wants a 2 page PS.......
Honestly, if I apply to UCLA, I'm sending my essays 11pt. I don't really give a rats ass about their 12pt rule since they are the only school which specifies it.

Re: UCLA wants a 2 page PS.......
The 12 point rule language is quite strong. I am going to cut down my PS just for them. It turns out to be about 4-5 lines, that's quite a bit.

IIRC I sent UCLA 11.5 pt last year and there was no problem. Also I'd double check to make sure but again IIRC only Boalt allowed more than 2 pages.

Re: UCLA wants a 2 page PS.......
EDIT: Here are the PS limits for the T14 and UCLA. It looks like UCLA's rule is indeed the most restrictive.
Yale: no information
Harvard: 2 pages, double spaced, 11-point font, 1 inch margins
Stanford: about 2 pages
Columbia: should be printed on a supplementary sheet or two
Chicago: no page limit, but generally 2-3 pages is sufficient in most circumstances
NYU: content and length at your discretion
Michigan: the length is up to you
Virginia: no information
Penn: 2 pages, double spaced
Berkeley: 2-4 pages, double spaced
Duke: no required length
Northwestern: no information
Cornell: try to limit to 2 pages, double spaced, 11-point font
Georgetown: no information
UCLA: 2 pages, double spaced, 12-point font

Yale 250 is an additional requirement. Their PS is 2 pgs IIRC

Re: UCLA wants a 2 page PS.......
if they specify 2 pages: make it 2 pages.
if they suggest 2 pages: go a little over if you feel it's necessary to your essay's affect on the reader.
don't go 10 pages, because you're bill shakespeare. no one's finishing that puppy.

Yale doesn't have a 2 page "hard" limit but they prefer if you limit it to 2 pages.im_blue wrote:I see. Edited.Hattori Hanzo wrote:Yale 250 is an additional requirement. Their PS is 2 pgs IIRC
