Resume - help

Post by trudat15 » Mon Sep 20, 2010 3:05 am

I spent a year in transition from one industry to my current one (I quit my previous job, got a job as a bartender, and worked as an intern at various companies to "get my foot in the door"). I dont have much room on my resume to put all the restaurants I worked at and companies I interned at, so was wondering if you guys had suggestions on how I can title it. Right now I have it as:

Various Companies, Los Angeles, CA
Development Intern, Bartender, Temporary Worker
• Served as a development intern at XXX and XXX while bartending at restaurants in the Los Angeles area
• Worked as a temporary worker at several XXX companies

I wouldn't combine all of them them-I'd simply list them with no bullet points underneath. If there are tons of restaurants and you don't have room, you can afford to lose a couple. If you need them all for showing continuous employment, I might just list Server-Various Locations for the restaurants and bartending.

I've thought about that, but I've interned at 2 companies, bartended at 3 places, and worked as a temp at like 4-5 companies during that year, and my res is already pushing the limit in terms of length.

Just post your agency for temping as one long employment. List out each of your internships on your resume-that's why you worked for free, right? Lose the serving outright unless it would give you a 6 month+ unemployment gap.

Fit the best possible ones you have. Cut whatever you can't fit. If they are that simple, no bullet points to save space.

Hmm. Thanks guys. Let's see what I can come up with. Do you know what the acceptable margins are for LS resumes?
