Jason Dugas Email?
Got an email from Jason Dugas, UVA, asking me to call him back and talk about my application. Has anyone had a good experience because of this? A bad one? Should I be worried?

99% of these are acceptance notifications.

It definitely cannot be a bad thing. I mean, they want to take the time to talk to you on the phone.esq wrote:Got an email from Jason Dugas, UVA, asking me to call him back and talk about my application. Has anyone had a good experience because of this? A bad one? Should I be worried?

I would be prepared, better safe than sorry. On the off case that you are a borderline applicant and he has some questions/concerns and wants to give you a chance via interview, be prepared to answer the standard questions (why Virginia; i see you did x on your resume tell me more... etc. etc.)
Harvard Dean of Admissions blog:
"I’m writing this, however, to let you all know that I will begin making phone calls to many applicants. This initial interview for people who catch my eye is a chance for me to ask some questions about the things I read in applications. What did you do in this summer internship? What is this activity that has taken up so much of your time? What is your senior thesis all about?"
Best case scenario, you're in at one of the top schools in the country OR you're prepared for an important interview. Worst case, you're prepared for something that doesn't happen. Good luck!

Wrong, UVA doesn't work like this. This is, as Vanwinkle said, is an acceptance.mst wrote:I would be prepared, better safe than sorry. Ok sorry, my bad. Just didn't want you walking into an interview tomorrow unprepared if there was something I could do about it. Congrats on getting in and sorry everyone here has spoiled the suprise,

No, actually thanks. I appreciate the positive consensus (it puts me at ease about it all), but I thought that your post from Harvard's dean was helpful. It's always good to temper expectations and go in prepared, so I am glad that someone is helping me come down to earth a bit. Besides, if I was accepted, he would have said so - at this point I only know that we are going to talk about my app.

I have seen some "please call us" emails be acceptances on LSN, but it is best to temper any excitement, imo.

Yeah, it can always be, "Please call us, even a personal note in rejection letter could not have conveyed how terrible your application is, we have to tell it personally. You have to hear our laughing (actually a video call might be better, do you have Skype?)"
Nah, joking, from what I ve seen, those UVA e-mails generally leads to happy endings.

Congrats! That e-mail/call is a pretty intense but awesome experience, isn't it?

Re: Jason Dugas Email?
Thanks everyone for all of the well-wishes. 'Intense but awesome' would be the exact words that I would use to describe my chat with Jason. I've also got to say that I appreciate the insider knowledge that you all gave me about what to expect from my phone call. I can't imagine how nervous I would have been without the positive vibes that came from knowing that 99% of the calls end happily - and ironically, for some reason or other, the image of Heath Leger/The Joker clapping for me was reoccuring in my head throughout the phone call.
