LOR from a minor related to your major OK?
Hi all, first time poster here.
Is it inadvisable to have my LOR written by my prof from my minor in film studies? I see a lot of posts saying that the LOR should come only from your major, but my major was history and this prof taught a history of film class in the film dept. I've been working in entertainment and plan to pursue ent law. I can get a great LOR, but I'm afraid this might be looked down upon by the adcomms. Thoughts?

They won't care where your LOR came from. All they care about is the quality, assuming it is an academic LOR.

Personally, I think the whole "the LOR should come from your major" thing is overblown. IMO, Adcomms want to see a good LOR, regardless of which professor it is from, who can talk about the quality of a student's work, work ethic, and their character. Who cares if the professor isn't from your major?
However, if anyone has any actual evidence contrary to my opinion, I'm all ears. I could very well be wrong. From a logical standpoint, it just doesn't make much sense to me.

if it exists, it's acceptable. Just get good letters and don't care what the professor's concentration is.

Most applications ask for LORs from people who know your academic work well. Personally, I have asked for LORs from professors and TAs with whom I've taken several classes, even if I don't know them as well as others who I took for only one or two. Just my 2 cents.

They don't really care that much, if at all, as long as it's good. 5 bucks says they won't even notice if it's from your major or minor.
