I noticed it keeps changing the option to get to the google search, but that keeps on being the only option. I never knew there was a non-advanced version before.

Short version: The server software that the forum runs on isn't really meant to handle both the number and length of threads we have here and advanced search functions on the kind of hardware TLS runs on. Short-term, advanced search has been disabled so the rest of the site continues working. Long-term we're looking at other options (including archiving old threads and moving them outside the search database, something we're working on to see if it improves stability).
