Illinois (now) vs Northwester (2014)

Post by chicagocubsrule » Mon Aug 02, 2010 2:23 pm

So I was excited about moving to Urbana-Champaign in a few weeks until last week when I received a deferred admission into Northwestern. So million dollar question....do I take Illinois (2013) or NU (2014)? Note: Illinois (and NU) gave me no money.

In my opinion, Northwestern. Use that year to save up money for tuition.

Do you have a job that could tide you over during the off year?

In my completely unbiased opinion as a proud UIUC graduate... go to Northwestern. :P

Congrats!

EDIT: I may try to see what kind of money you can leverage out of UIUC, just to be sure. It may be kind of late in the game, though, so I don't know what kind of response you are going to get.

Northwestern. Better jobs prospects, another year for the economy to improve, and another year to make some $ to pay for it. I think UIUC has a lower per year tuition cost (especially if you're in state), but with no scholarship money I would think the higher price at NU is worth the better employment odds.

It's 12-0 in favor of NU. I think that tells you all you need to know.

Assuming that this is not a trick question, then the clear answer is Northwestern. A more interesting poll question, even though not applicable in your situation, would be a full tuition scholarship at Illinois versus full pay at Northwestern.

If you could stay out of trouble for a year then take Northwestern. It's a small price to pay for something that will affect you for a lifetime.

thanks....what's crazy about this entire thing is when I initially planned on going to law school a few years ago I would've been more than happy going to a Loyola (Chicago). This forum (and its members) pushed you to strive and go to a T14.

What set of numbers created the situation of getting into Illinois and NU both at sticker?
