Duke as my safety? Dumb?
171/3.86
i feel like im ok, and hoping to get that priority track invite?
would it be dumb to make this my "safety" and not bother with apps to gulc, nwestern, and cornell?

Would you go to NCG if they have you more money than duke?bofaem wrote:171/3.86

im not sure, ive always been a proponent of the whole go to the highest ranked even if it means paying more, but the more i think about it the placement between duke, nw, and g is probably the same
im inclined to think i would just go to the highest ranked

This might be the dumb part of the thread...bofaem wrote:im not sure, ive always been a proponent of the whole go to the highest ranked even if it means paying more, but the more i think about it the placement between duke, nw, and g is probably the same

Yes it would be dumb, because you would miss out on tons of fatty scholarships from great T25 schools. Even if you decide not to take them, its good to have options. Always, always, always cast your net wide.

Desert Fox alludes to a good point, and that's just with the peer schools. But frankly, if money carries very much interest to you at all, you might go just a bit lower in the schools you apply to (while still keeping your targets and reaches). People have gotten well over half tuition (sometimes near if not full tuition) at places like USC, WUSTL, and Minnesota with numbers like that. Granted, sometimes they don't get very much at all from said schools. But it couldn't hurt to find out, if that is something that interests you.

But to be more productive, I think that you have a great shot at Duke, OP. I would hedge by applying to NMVPCG. You'll definitely get into at least 1-2 of those 7.

The short answer is yes. The long answer is yes with more detail.bofaem wrote:sorry im new at this...so there is a difference in placement?
Duke places better in DC than NCG and probably slightly better than NCG in NYC (only marginally better than Cornell in the V100). N would be better for Chicago, obviously.
Also, comparisons within the DNCG group are fairly nuanced. Although I would consider Duke's placement to be slightly higher than C and even more so than G, N is probably more of a peer.

Re: Duke as my safety? Dumb?
thanks for the input, if im lucky enough to get priority track i can apply and find out then make a decision...but probably still good to throw a bunch of apps to shop around schollys
the thing is though im serious considering ED to one of CCN in which case i would be paying sticker so i just want a solid security blanket at a t14

Georgetown is a little worse, Northwestern, Cornell and Duke are roughly equals. Though each do better in different markets. Duke does better in the South, Northwestern in the midwest, Cornell in NYC.bofaem wrote:sorry im new at this...so there is a difference in placement?
You've got the possibility at some decent scholarships at these schools. I think it is worth the application. Even if you only use the offer to force Duke into giving you more money.
