Geographic Minority?

Post by wolfpack-avvocato » Thu Jul 15, 2010 9:08 pm

Minority probably isn't the right word but it works. Is there any "preference" given to people from a long ways away, or maybe from a small state, or one they have had few to no students matriculate? Reason I ask is I know everyone and their brother from Nevada (my state) applies to the UC system, UT system, Oregon and Washington. Is there any advantage to my residence when I apply to schools back east?

I know some schools tout their "geographic diversity", I'm interested on how strongly they pursue this "diversity".

About as strongly as they pursue their touted "holistic" admissions process.

If schools don't value state of residence, then why is that an upcoming feature on lawschoolpredictor.com? Just wondering...

I think that is for in-state boosts at public schools.

You will get a small boost only for in-state applicants from certain schools I believe, mainly, if not all, public. Some schools also have a certain number or percentage of seats reserved for in-state applicants. I want to say UVA, UNC, and some other school are like this, but not really sure.
