My Recommender has Two Names? Forum

My recommender is a popular financial pundit who appears on TV Shows and writes book. Her blog is also very popular. The problem is that she has one name she uses and is on her stationary(her real name) but for all these other professional activities she uses another name. People would only know of her by her professional name, not real name.

She wants to write the recommendation on her stationary because its more official, but then how would admissions committees know that this important person is writing me a rec? Any creative solutions? Do you think I should make stationary for her?

This is a non-issue. She will out herself in her rec.

For example, "In my capacity as Female Jim Cramer on Fox Business, I have had the opportunity to meet many young future financial leaders. Sally is by far the sharpest dresser."

But you should definitely make that stationary for her and then report back with her reaction.

OK. I made the stationary. She said she didn't like it, especially the double heart design I placed at the top and the sword at the bottom. I thought these designs made the recommendation seem way more intense and would stick in an ad com's minds, but she is not having it. She says it looks medieval...which is what I was going for.

A recommendation from someone quasi-famous is not going to help much. What is said and their level of knowledge about your skills are far more important.

You worrying that they will not be recognized by their real name implies otherwise.

A well-known, established, intellectual on a particular topic who writes the same thing as someone not as established, or well-known, is likely to be considered more impressive. Especially when the recommendation is about my expertise on a particular topic.

For example, and hypothetically, a Phd Harvard Financial History Prof((Niall Ferguson)) or the history teacher at Kalamazoo High in Michigan. Both saying the same thing.
