160/3.7

Post by jts31 » Wed Jul 07, 2010 12:42 pm

Got my June scores...disappointed with a 160. I have a 3.7 GPA and was wondering what type of schools I'd be able to get into with such scores?

Also, I plan on retaking in October. What are the pros/cons of retaking as far as schools averaging scores?

Pros: there are none
Cons: they don't just consider your highest score

I had a 160 and 3.85. I was accepted to Penn State with a $60,000 scholarship, Villanova with no money, Ohio State off the waitlist (I think I would have gotten in but I applied late); Northeastern, Buffalo and Syracuse all accepted me as well. I was rejected from Boston College and Boston University. I think you have a good chance at a mid to lower T1 with probably no money and a T2 with a decent scholarship. That was my experience anyway.

Pretty much all schools just consider your highest score nowadays, whether they announce it or otherwise. Just retake.

I have the exact same profile, June 160 and 3.69 (but we can call it a 3.7 for this lol). Also in PA now, from NY, looking to go to school in NY/NJ area.

I am retaking it, but the way I saw it is like this:
Worst Case Scenario (not doing better than a 160 on retake) - Looking at Seton Hall, both Rutgers, St. John's, possible Brooklyn, UCONN, and a hopeful with Cordozo

As far as pro's go with schools that average, there is one...you do better, like a 180, and get a 170 average lol...but seriously, my hope was I can hit 170 with enough studying and average a 165 which is a very significant jump in schools.

Best of luck, and this link is really helpful...you will find a lot of schools DON'T average actually:

Scroll down and you will see it.
