Consider that if you retake in Dec you will be very late in the admissions cycle which will hurt your chances. You might benefit from taking it in Sept and ED at your top choice. Not everybody improves when they retake. Make sure you prepare for the LSAT.

Volunteering at a law related job will benefit you but not is the application process because you will be applying in September or October and you will only have the hours that you accumulate between now and then.

I'd go to Berkeley if I were you.

This is my first post in this forum, but I used it this past year to basically figure out things about the application process.
So here's my story, in at Berkeley, Penn, Michigan, Virginia, Northwestern, Duke, Cornell, Georgetown.
Out at Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, NYU, Chicago.

I'm at a 3.8, 171, political science from an Ivy.
I had my sights set on at least CCN, but unfortunately that isn't happening, I really thought I was in at one of those three, but oh well.
My goal is to work for a V5 (Wachtell, Cravath, Skadden, Sullivan, Davis Polk), but I just don't see that happening anymore.

I can't go into Berkeley or Penn thinking that I'm going to be in the top 10% there, so I'm contemplating volunteering for a year, retaking the LSAT later this year, and giving next year's cycle another shot. Comments?

You have proven that you are a flame and do not have what it takes to be a good lawyer. You are detached from reality. Penn, Northwestern, Berkeley, UVA, Cornell, or Duke would not get you the jobs you're looking for? You have to be on Crack if you believe that. You are probably a flame, but in case you aren't, yes you will do quite well in the schools that have accepted you. You need to focus more on not whining about amazing good fortune, which tends to piss people off, and could hurt your legal career if you continue to bitch.

Berkeley doesn't secure its law students private sector jobs, really, I'm not sure what they do.
MVP are good, but not NYC V5 good.
Chicago is phenomenal, whereas the other two - Columbia and NYU - feed right into these firms.
That's my concern.

Oh dear. No law school "secures" its students jobs. You get jobs by yourself. Figure out how to get an actual job, then worry about law school and prestige.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the NLJ numbers are reported by firm, not school or individual.

If you want to argue the numbers are inaccurate because they are quasi-pre ITE, then okay. But I don't see how they aren't useful for school-to-school comparisons.
