Anyone else seat deposit broke?
It sucks. I'm now left to count down the days until the 15th when I will have money again.

At least seat deposits are applied toward tuition. Think of it as an investment in yourself.

Doesn't feel like much when tuition is so astronomical.

Re: Anyone else seat deposit broke?
I'm supposed to make $300 waitressing this Saturday and Sunday so I can write my seat deposit check and mail it without dipping into my savings ... which I'm reserving for first/last/deposit on my future apartment. That leaves me with $0 for food/gas/existing until the following weekend where I will net some more scrilla.
It would've been so much more fun to spend all summer vacationing and drinking, but instead I'm working 7 days a week like a crazy person to pay off my existing debt before I start over again in August. Sometimes I hate being an adult.
P.S. I know seat deposits are counted toward tuition, but does that theoretically mean I'll get my seat deposit back as part of my loan disbursement? Since grant $ < tuition, and I'm taking out loans up to the cost attendance? Or do they assume the seat deposits were ALREADY paid when they quote 1L tuition in COA?

Re: Anyone else seat deposit broke?
My seat deposits only totaled $500. Don't see how you could be broke after that. I still have enough saved to move 650 miles with an entire family, buy a laptop, and pay 3 months rent.

Yeah, my problem is I live paycheck to paycheck and don't have a savings.

Rent + Seat Deposit = $24.07 bank statement. Get paid in two weeks. That 20lb bag of rice I bought should come in handy.

Re: Anyone else seat deposit broke?
This is a good question, I'd like to know the answer as well. So say my estimated COA is ~$19,000, do I actually have $20,000 after a $1,000 seat deposit "refund"?'dudders wrote:P.S. ETA Okay, well, I just learned that for my school, the "cost of attendance" is exactly $1,000 higher than the amount estimated in my award letter, which leads me to believe that it was already factored in. I don't know about other schools.

well good for you.shepdawg wrote:My seat deposits only totaled $500. Don't see how you could be broke after that. I still have enough saved to move 650 miles with an entire family, buy a laptop, and pay 3 months rent.
You can also call the school and ask to pay a reduced deposit. They are getting their money either way so usually they are accommodating with this request.
