Wait until PS is done to request LOR?

Post by misc » Wed May 26, 2010 10:24 pm

I've read that it can be helpful to provide a personal statement along with the transcript, resume, and other information to the person writing the letter of recommendation. I'm probably about a month or two away from completing something close to a final draft of my personal statement. Should I just go ahead and request LORs now without the PS or wait until July/early August so I provide them with a PS too? I'm planning on applying in October. Thanks.

May as well wait until you finish your PS. If you request LORs in July that's enough lead time.

I would recommend giving a copy of your PS and your resume to your LOR writers. They can then see how you are trying to sell yourself and what you are emphasizing in the applications process, and write LORs that complement that. That's what I'm going to do.
