Re: So...who's planning a wedding and going to law school?
Love this post! We just got married at the end of March so for a while I was studying for the LSAT, applying to schools, and planning a wedding at the same time. Luckily(????) I was unemployed so I didn't have to work at the same time or else I would've chopped my own head off. Planning a wedding is A LOT of work, but we can all do it! And the pictures at the end are so worth the sweat & tears. Yes we are all a bit masochistic, aren't we??!
Congrats to all you ladies!!!
Extra kudos to those of you planning to have a family while in law school....that's a whole other can of worms I care not to open right now.

Re: So...who's planning a wedding and going to law school?
I'm getting married in June 2011. I've been planning the wedding this year and have pretty much everything planned. (It was my goal to get everything set, vendors, dress etc. before law school). Hopefully now I won't have to worry about it next year until after finals.
The only thing that sucks is I probably won't be able to take a honeymoon if I want any shot at a good 1L summer gig.

Family first. Law school second
I'm not planning on getting married until I'm well past 30. Law school and working are both hard enough without a screaming baby in tow.
Congrats though.

I apologize for the misspelling.
And you're correct, it's not funny.
It's true.

I'm getting married in June, honeymoon right after, then moving for law school! After 5 years of dating, I think it's about time, and I don't think whether we get married now or after law school will change our divorce likelihood (which I like to think is very small, although statistics say otherwise).

Re: So...who's planning a wedding and going to law school?
We got married last June a week after I took my first LSAT. It was a disaster (the test, not the wedding). The nice part was I got the horrible score the last day of my honeymoon and was so happy I just laughed.
How are all of your spouses/soon-to-be spouses taking the stress of law school applications? My husband is a trooper, but I don't think anyone will be more excited than he is for when I make a final decision. For those of you brave souls who are planning a move, starting school, and a wedding for the same time... whew, good luck!

There are a couple of threads on the topic:BizOwner wrote:Anyone want to chime in on having kids in LS? Experiences? Not to dos?

But usually they get hijacked by people saying "You are CRAZY. I am only 21 and have been with my boyfriend was 6 months and I am not ready so therefore you and your spouse are not ready!!" I think having a baby during law school (after 1L) is relatively common among married students. We are planning to do it (depending on the school) so I am hoping to find a support system of other students doing the same.

thanks..its nice to hear others in the same boat...
We'll probably plan on delivery sometime during the summer after 1L. My wife is school teacher so it will work well with both of our schedules. Of course plans and reality are often different as I have learned.

We're not getting married until after law school. So I have 3 more years to "plan." But I can't technically do anything or make any planning-related decisions until the middle of 2L. Sad day.
Congrats to all the summer couples!

Congrats to all the newly weds and those about to be newly weds!
Reading this thread is inspirational, cause I did not think it was possible to get married while in Law School. But since so many others have done it, it definitely proves me otherwise. I really want to get married, to my best friend, and the love of my life - and I have been thinking of doing so right after finishing Law School.
Pending the billable hours that are required for first year associates, is this a better decision? Or is it better to get married in Law School, before the bloodshed of work hours are upon me?

I'm getting married right after L1. Luckily for me I don't have to (cough-or care about-cough) make any of the decisions anyway. Fiance is finishing up her RN as we speak, so she wont have anything to complain about when I disappear into law books for months at a time.

When the time is right (which will be WELL past the age of 30) and I find the right girl, I'm eloping.
Forget the bickering over the size of the ceremony, invite list, cost of the reception, and the long, 300 page list of other things you have to bicker over.

sorry to break it to you, but it will be her choice whether to elope or not. she may well want to, but shes going to have the final say. believe me. but for your sake, hopefully the right girl wants to elope.motiontodismiss wrote:When the time is right (which will be WELL past the age of 30) and I find the right girl, I'm eloping.

Re: So...who's planning a wedding and going to law school?
There's no way in hell I'm footing the $30k+ bill for a 3 hour wedding at the end of which everyone's going to be too drunk to remember. If she wants to foot the entire bill, that's fine by me. Plus, weddings are overrated.moandersen wrote:sorry to break it to you, but it will be her choice whether to elope or not. she may well want to, but shes going to have the final say. believe me. but for your sake, hopefully the right girl wants to elope.motiontodismiss wrote:When the time is right (which will be WELL past the age of 30) and I find the right girl, I'm eloping.

I'll go along with anything she wants......as long as she's paying. Golden Rule #1: He (or she) who shall be stuck with the bill shall at all times have the final say.

My wife and I planned our wedding the last semester of both of our M.A. studies. I was applying to LS, she was applying to Ph.D. programs. We both wrote our theses, took classes, worked at PT jobs, and still managed to pull off a beautiful wedding, thanks largely to my mother-in-law's willingness to pitch in. Still, we were basically going mad the weeks before the wedding in March.
