2010 v. 2011 cycle - thoughts?
Simple question: will the 2011 cycle be as competitive as the 2010 cycle?
We don't have all the info yet, of course, but looking at LSN it sure seems like a few schools will be raising their GPA or LSAT medians. I suppose the big thing will be the on again off again economic recovery.
I actually postponed my cycle and will be applying next year (for a host of reasons, but the stiff admissions did cross my mind), so I'm wondering how people facing end of cycles might be dealing with this question. Are you trying your luck again next year, or are you happy with the way things went? I'd like to think it won't be as bad, but my gut is telling me it'll be about the same.
Might as well add a poll to this...

Schools are always going to look to improve their numbers from the previous year so I doubt it's going to get any "easier."

Yes, but the number of applications to graduate and professional schools usually has a strong correlation with economic indicators. So there might simply be less applicants in a good economic year.lawduder wrote:Schools are always going to look to improve their numbers from the previous year so I doubt it's going to get any "easier."

My guess is that it will probably be about the same. The economy should be slightly improved but I doubt that will decrease the number of applicants by too many. Expect the same numbers to have about the same chances.

I really think applications will level off or maybe even decrease. I think there will be more holding and waitlisting, and then more pulling people off the waitlists. That makes my vote for easier, for some reason.

Everybody was saying how hard this cycle is going to be, yet I got into a number of my reaches.

I sincerely hope that it is the same. I can't imagine anything much more brutal than this year.
