You should make <1k or 0-1k an option. Between being dirt poor to begin with, living hand to mouth, and the economy making my job prospects minimal, I'd be surprised if I have much of anything saved up. If you factor in UG debt I'll be in the red for sure.

Currently I've got 10K left on my car & 3K credit card debt. Hopefully I can pay off the CC, and save up enough money to be able to make car payments while in LS. I don't want to take out a loan for a loan.

I received some inheritance money from a deceased relative about a year ago that will give me a boost. Unfortunately I'm using some of it to live right now because I can only find part-time work, but I should have enough left to cover a full year of tuition and some living expenses. I probably wouldn't have gone to law school without it.

I still have a little over 4k saved up from all the music lessons I taught during college (currently in my 4th year of UG.) Then again my parents paid for my UG completely so I can't really brag about the unimpressive savings account I've built up haha.

I'm took a year between undergrad and law school to work/study for the LSAT. I've saved about $9,000 so far, I'm hoping to have between 12-14,000 by September. But considering the massive loans I'll likely be taking, $14,000 won't go all that far.

5k, this money comes from a low-paying full time job that last about 5 months. (I subtract the living expense definitely) I will spent these money for the move-in expense, campus visit, (airline ticket and/or other related travel expense) a laptop, (mine current 15'4 toshiba is way too big for law school) and any law school related books that I will order during the summer.

I guess Texas really is a bit more sheltered from the depression, it isn't a problem at all to find a job in my area (never said they would be desirable). I'm working 15-20 hrs/wk at a law firm for a bit above minimum wage, and waiting tables 30-40 hrs/wk making damn decent money (for a temporary job at least). Not living at home atm and hoping to have 5k saved up before I start.

You need more than that to get ON the amtrak. So that's gonna be the bathroom at the station.

I plan to pay off all my credit cards and my car. I don't want any monthly payments. I don't think I will need any cash savings other than a small amount to tie me over until the financial aid refund checks are issued.

It actually depends on the weight, 15.4'' usually carries more weight than 13'' laptops. carry 30 pounds books and a 10+ pounds laptop is not fun when you try to rushing among the classrooms and the library. Indeed, if you hand write your class notes, then please forget about what I said. And again, sorry for the confusion, I should make the point more clear in the first place.

I've been out for almost 3 years now. I hope to have close to 40k saved by the time school starts and I've got about 80 to 100K equity in my house. I hope to keep my house during law school and rent it out. Ideally by the time I grad, it will have appreciated decently and I can then sell it to help me buy a house where ever I work and to help me pay down any loans I might have.

Is that Canadian dollars? If so, that only counts for the $6K-$9K option on the poll.

Not so subtle anti-Canada trolling.

Increments in the poll were too small, especially for those of us in the work force for a few years.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
