Include deadline in LOCI? Help!

Post by exdubliner » Wed Mar 17, 2010 9:20 pm

So I was "held" by Columbia 10 days ago; I should have sent off my LOCI immediately but I didn't. I have it ready to send off now, but should I include the deadlines I'm facing for 2 other offers?

I have to decide on 2 scholarship offers by April 1st. Acceptance, however, requires withdrawing all other pending applications, which would include Columbia.

Should I say in my LOCI to Columbia that the decision is time-sensitive and if the committee let me know by March 31st I could withdraw my application from the other 2 schools? Or is that inappropriate? Should I leave out the specifics or should I mention the other schools/programs by name?

Any input is appreciated, thanks!

I'd leave out the deadline. First of all, it's a pretty standard one they are well aware of. Secondly, even if you deposit at a different school, you could forfit your deposit and enroll there if admitted. If you want to go there so badly, what's a few hundred dollars.

I had already sent my LOCI by the time I got scholarship offers, so I just sent a follow-up e-mail letting them know of the deadline. FWIW, I don't think they gave a shit.

The scholarship offers (I believe) he/she is referring to are binding, requiring withdrawing from all other schools. However, I agree with another poster that Columbia doesn't care. :|
