Biology Student Chances of Law School
I graduated in May 2009 with a degree in Biology, my overall GPA was around 3.74ish. I was going to Medical School until I talked to people who were actually doctors. They told me how frustrating it has become to be a doctor. So know I am trying to decide what I want to do. I have a lot of volunteer experience and was a V.P. of our Medical Fraternity. I haven't taken the LSAT, but have done some questions and seem to have a good chance of scoring high. I was wondering if I scored 160+ on the LSAT with my Biology major and GPA do I have a chance of getting into any top 25 law schools. I was hoping to stay around Southern California, maybe UCLA or USC.

With a 3.74, you're going to need a 167-168 for UCLA or USC.

Unless you have something that truly sets you apart from the crowd, LSAT and GPA are the only things that matter.acrossthelake wrote:Neither.biostudent55 wrote:Will having the Biology Major help or hurt me?

Go to med school. Most of us are going into law because we weren't smart enough to become doctors

I've had lawyers tell me to become a doctor and doctors tell me to become a lawyer. : D
So, either you can't win, or you can't lose?

Grass is always greener on the other side of the fence - though a doctor living next to a lawyer means more that the grass is always less dead on the other side of the fence.

Well the problem is I really think that I may enjoy Law better than I would Medicine. I have spoken to many doctors all who say that, given the chance, they would have not gone into the Medical Field. However, I have spoken to Dentists, because Dental School requires the same prerequisites, and they seem to enjoy what they are doing.

Why would a easy major have the prerequisites for Medical school?

General Dentistry is going the way medicine has gone. Not as quickly as medicine has, but the insurance companies will run dentistry soon enough. Of course, Orthodontics is just a specialized dental field and it requires dental school first.

With a 3.74 in biology, why aren't you applying to dentistry, vet school, optometry, pharmacy, etc? IMO, those are all better options than law school unless you score well above 170+ on the LSAT. Don't waste your pre-med courses.

I think that most likely I am going to dental school, but not likely till Sep 2011. So I figured that I might exhaust all my options, or at the very least research them a little. As for dentistry I don't think that the dental field we ever become as bad as it is in the medical field based solely on the expenses for procedures are so miniscule compared to the medical field. I have spoke with a lot of dentists, and a big thing now, which will likely only get bigger, is cosmetic dentistry.
