GW w/ 105,450 or UMICH at sticker
I felt like making another thread since I got waitlisted at Michiga ^_^. What would you guys do? I am interested in Labor law// Government so DC is a good spot + the money doesn't hurt. ON the other hand, the money isnt a complete windfall since GW is more expensive than Mich (COL) and I would like to be able to go back to CALI easily. The truth is I prolly wont get into Mich so this whole thread is moot, but I'm bored at work so I can dream...

i'm in a similar boat with GULC thrown into the mix. not really sure what i'm going to do. leaning toward michigan, but i really do want to do public interest/government stuff and i'm not sure if going to DC to network wouldn't make all the difference.

Ya, I have GULC too (on waitlist), but there is no way I am going to pay the difference to go there since GULC's location is exactly the same as GW, so I don't see the difference in school level (t14vt20) to be worth the debt. Mich, on the other hand, is just amazing =Dtallboone wrote:i'm in a similar boat with GULC thrown into the mix. not really sure what i'm going to do. leaning toward michigan, but i really do want to do public interest/government stuff and i'm not sure if going to DC to network wouldn't make all the difference.

You know you'll end up choosing U Mich if you get in, so why even bother.

i'm not positive about mich. i'm visiting at the end of the month so that may sway my decision, but i've been told by several attorneys that if you want to go into government and don't get into HYS, you should go to georgetown.

Ugh why did you say that, now you are making me think more seriously about GULC.tallboone wrote:i'm not positive about mich. i'm visiting at the end of the month so that may sway my decision, but i've been told by several attorneys that if you want to go into government and don't get into HYS, you should go to georgetown.

If you are interested in Gov't, look into Mich's LRAP. I don't know if it is any good, but that might be a deciding factor.

Problem is Mich and GULC's LRAP are completely different (with GULC, you don't pay anything if you make under 75,000k a year in a qualifying public interest job, whereas Mich's LRAP covers any low-paying legal job).
But back to the OP's dilemma, you might find that going to Mich or GULC is better than GW because both of their LRAP programs are superior to GWs. I ran the numbers for GW and even with the $105k scholarship, GW will still cost around $90k (conservatively), meaning you would end up paying more to attend GW in the long run if you go into public interest. In short, the College Cost Reduction and Access Act really throws a wrench into school decisions, even when scholarship money is in play. But good luck on those waitlists, and either way, you are in a great position.

Here's hoping for both of us.
