165...No man's land?

Post by lostone » Wed Mar 10, 2010 2:42 pm

So after receiving a 165 on feb lsat, i am slightly pissed because according to lsn, a 165 seems to be no man's land for t-20-30 as BU BC Fordham WUSTL all waitlist here, but they generally accept 166's...

Anyone have any further input on this?
Anyone come off the WL to any of these schools with 165's?

Thanks

GPA? Softs? Because I have a 165... and I got into UCLA, USC and Wash U. You are more than one number.

But, yes, if your GPA is low, retake and apply next cycle.

Edit: I just checked out your GPA (sorry for being a lazy butt). I would advise you to retake and get a 167+ if you want the top 20. WUSTL is all about the 167.

165 will get you off the WL from most t20-30. but be prepared to pay sticker. you will be the one subsidizing for their 167+s

I wouldn't put so much stock into those figures. I think a lot of the admissions process is #'s based but I also think it is very subjective as well.

Just my opinion though.

I'll say this... Sandie Cohen is an anomaly. I've got a 165 and been in waitlist hell at my top choices- Berkeley, Georgetown, and USC. I feel like I weaseled into Davis, and by the look of my UW application cycle, I'm pretty sure I will be waitlisted there too. If I were you, I would try for the score increase. You'll save yourself a lot of stress come application season.

I've never been called an anomaly before. I kinda like it.

Neelio, I think you have a really good chance of getting off of those WLs. I didn't apply to G-town and I'm pretty sure Berk will either ding or WL me in the next 24 hours or so. Either way, I'm rooting for you.

OP, retake and raise your score by 2-3 points. You will be in great shape.

i actually took it 3x actually...165 is highest ...before the feb lsat, i was consistently scoring 171-172, even on older never before seen pt's so another test is out of the question...although i plan to reapply next app cycle because i have a good job offer and plan to work a year before school....

my gpa is not great, 3.56, but lor's and softs are above average (lor from CPO and director of major program at the university) and decent internships and helped establish a new major here....

Its funny because i consider my 170 to be no man's land.

Different situation though, because I'm a splitter. I'm applying to a bunch of T2 schools where that LSAT is like 10+ points above their median (and 75% in some cases.) If there is a splitter version of YP, I'm pretty sure I'm getting it in a bunch of schools because 170 as useful as a 160 to a school with a 75% of 159, so I don't think its helping me at all. (thats a touch hyperbolic, because I've gotten some decent scholarships at schools that normally wouldn't based on GPA, but on a whole I don't think its helped that much.)

Hopefully it gets me off the waiting list at some of my T20 reaches though. But not likely.
